Zoila, Alex & I recently got back from an 8-day jaunt to Canada: Prince Edward Island and Fundy Park on the Bay of Fundy. We left on Monday, August 15 and drove to RC & JC's in Springfield. Later that day Uncle Joe arrived by
avion from Florida. That night we had Indian food at Pintoo's in West Springfield with Jim and Vann Rowe, old friends of RC & JC.
We set out fairly early the next morning in 2 cars on our 2-day, 700 + mile voyage to Prince Edward island. We took turns driving. We spent the first night in
The Katahdin Inn (really an EconoLodge). Alex was impressed (as was I) with the size of the space indoor swimming pool as well as with the handicapped bathroom in our room (complete with drive-in shower!).
The next day (Wednesday, 8/17) we departed on the trip that would take us across the heavily fortified, closely guarded US-Canadian border. Not long into the trip we stopped at the scenic overlook on Mt. Katahdin on Interstate 95.

We got to the border about lunch time. RC, JC & Uncle Joe (in car 2) had no trouble getting through. Z, A & I in car1, on the other hand, were subjected to the third degree by the mild-mannered Canadian customs agents. I sat in the frontier post for about 30 minutes twiddling my thumbs while they diddled on the computer and then questioned me about who, when, where, how and why we were coming to Canada, and were we sure about that?, I THINK because of the non-traditional nature of our "family". Finally we did get through and drove up to the Welcome Center to change money. As it turned out, this was a lovely spot for a picnic, so we picnicked. Some of us felt compelled to take a non-traditional way down the hill.
