
We arrived that same night in Prince Edward Island. There was a little confusion about how to get to our lodging - the Victoria Inn - in the little hamlet of Victoria-by-the-Sea, but we finally got there a little after dark. You no longer have to take a ferry to get to PEI; there is now a long (13KM = 8 miles +), 2-lane
bridge, completed in 1997, that takes you over from the mainland. This is a big boon to the islanders, since, before the bridge was built, there were several months a year, when the strait was neither pure water nor pure ice, when they were cut off from the rest of the world.
